Global Climate Change in the Americas
Synthesis, Integration & Assessment
— Pan-American Advanced Studies Institute
PASI's aim is to disseminate advanced scientific and engineering knowledge and stimulate training and cooperation among researchers of the Americas in the mathematical, physical, and biological sciences, and in engineering fields.
The focus of this Institute will emphasize the impacts of climate change on natural and managed ecosystems, society and the associated feedbacks of management strategies and their consequences in Pan-American countries. The following are the major themes within Global Change research that the science will focus on.
- Terrestrial processes and carbon flux in the Americas
- Climate and climate feedback
- Social and political considerations
These themes are designed to introduce the overlap within disciplines and between research elements in addition to providing in-depth discussions of the most novel and advanced science in various disciplines and to identify important integrated research that needs to be done. An important aspect is that the institute addresses public needs and a plan to communicate this to the public.
